The ABR Difference

The ABR Instructional Model Advance Baton Rouge Charter Schools offer students instruction in the core subject areas of reading, math, science and social studies, as well enrichment courses in art, music and language arts. Each of our schools are autonomous to design their own pacing guides and curriculum maps for instruction, however it is our priority to ensure that all schools are teaching the Grade Level Expectations (GLE) defined in the Louisiana Comprehensive Curriculum. ABR’s elementary schools, Dalton and Lanier, offer students 410 minutes of instruction each school day, while Prescott and Glen Oaks Middle Schools and Pointe Coupee Central High School offer students 425 instructional minutes each day. The minimum minutes in an instructional day required by the Louisiana Department of Education is 360, therefore allowing ABR students more access to learning every day. These additional minutes are generally used by each school’s Response to Intervention model for addressing learning gaps in students. Responses to Intervention: • “Language!”: addresses literacy learning gaps in students in grades 3-12. Currently used at all schools. • “Read 180”: literacy intervention program. Currently used by Pointe Coupee Central. • “Accelerated Reader”: elementary literacy intervention program currently used at Dalton Elementary. • “VMath”: addresses numeracy learning gaps in students in grades 3-12. Currently used at all schools. • “TRANS Math”: numeracy intervention programs for student at least two grade levels behind. • Summer School programs for 7th grade students entering 8th grade to give them a jumpstart on LEAP test preparation. Assessments: ABR has created benchmark tests using the Louisiana Department of Education’s Enhanced Assessment of Grade Level Expectations (EAGLE) program for all schools in grades 3rd-11th in ELA and Math. These tests are designed to assess student’s mastery of GLE’s, and are given 3 times a year. Teachers also assess their students mastery of GLE’s as they cover the units of study within their daily lessons and chart the GLE’s their classroom. After School Enrichment: ABR’s charter schools also offer after school activities that help reinforce the school’s curriculum through enrichment activities and tutoring. Below is a list of our school’s after-school programs: • Lanier Elementary: Big Buddy program • Dalton Elementary: 21st Century Learning Program • Prescott Middle: 21st Century Learning Program • Glen Oaks Middle: 21st Century Learning Program |
