Below are frequently asked questions and answers on Advance Baton Rouge Charter School Association: Q: WHAT IS A CHARTER SCHOOL? A: A charter school is a public school that is operated by a private nonprofit organization instead of the local system. The schools are free, open to everyone and accredited by the State of Louisiana. Q: DOES ABR TEACH THE STATE COMPREHENSIVE CURRICULUM? A: All teachers in ABR charter schools will teach the Louisiana Comprehensive Curriculum (LCC). Teachers have the autonomy to design their lesson plans to best meet the needs of their students using the LCC. Elective courses will be decided upon by individual schools. Q: DO CHARTER SCHOOLS PROVIDE THE SAME SERVICES TO ALL STUDENTS AS PUBLIC SCHOOLS? A: A charter school provides the same services as public schools such as free/reduced school breakfast and lunch and free transportation. In addition, charter schools also provide all services required for special education students as determined by their IEP. Q: HOW LONG IS THE SCHOOL DAY?
