Frequently Asked Questions Q. WHAT IS ADVANCE BATON ROUGE? A. ADVANCE Baton Rouge (ABR) is an educational nonprofit that currently operates five charter schools in East Baton Rouge and Pointe Coupee parishes. Our schools were placed in the Recovery School District after years of academic failure and are currently being reformed by ABR. Q. WHAT IS A CHARTER SCHOOL? A. A charter school is a public school that is operated by a private nonprofit organization instead of the local system. The schools are free, open to all students and accredited by the State of Louisiana. Q. WHAT IS YOUR TEACHER STARTING SALARY? $45,183.60 A. ABR is competitive with all districts in the Capital Region. Salary is based on experience and level of education. Q. CAN I LEAVE MY CURRENT SCHOOL DISTRICT AND RETURN AT ANY POINT WITHOUT LOSING TENURE OR BENEFITS? A. Teachers may take a leave of absence from their current school district for up to three years without losing tenure or teacher retirement. Q. DOES ADVANCE BATON ROUGE CONTRIBUTE TO TEACHER RETIREMENT AND OFFER OTHER BENEFITS? A. Yes, ABR does contribute to teacher retirement and the following are the benefits offered to full-time employees: ABR is paying for the premium for Employee Only coverage for Medical, Dental, Life and LTD. You may elect coverage for additional dependents, Vision, Voluntary Life, and/or Short-term Disability. Premiums for those benefits are done through payroll deduction. Q. WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED? A. HOW LONG IS MY APPLICATION KEPT ON FILE? A. Applications are kept on file for one year. Q. IF I AM A FORMER EMPLOYEE OF THE ASSOCIATION, MUST I BE FINGER PRINTED AND DRUG TESTED AGAIN? A. According to school board rules, you must be finger printed again if your break in service is 90 days or more. |
