ABR Announces 2010 Teachers and Principal of the Year

Organization hosts ceremony in their honor.

The Advance Baton Rouge Charter School Association (ABR) hosted its first ever Teacher of the Year Recognition Ceremony, honoring outstanding educators, Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Louisiana Resource Center for Educators.
 
Each of ABR’s 5 schools selected one outstanding teacher based on their leadership capability, community involvement, student growth on Eagle benchmark testing, classroom evaluations and peer collaboration. The 2010 ABR Teacher of the Year honorees are Margaret Collins, 2nd Grade, Dalton Elementary, Ashley Salchli, 3rd Grade, Lanier Elementary, Stephanie Gounder, 7th Grade ELA, Glen Oaks Middle, Nancy Lamell, 8th Grade ELA, Prescott Middle, and Richard Roberts, 9th grade Math, Pointe Coupee Central High.
 
The recipients received a gift basket valued at over $500 filled with teaching supplies and gift certificates from School Aids, Louisiana Office Supply, Raising Cane’s, a Ladies Day Out sponsored by In Register / 225 Magazine and more.
 
“I am so proud of our outstanding teachers,” said Henry Shepard, CEO of Advance Baton Rouge Charter School Association. “They have worked hard in and out of the classroom to ensure that our students grow both academically and socially. These five teachers represent our evolution as an organization, our administrators, teachers and students are moving forward together."
 
Three of the recipients, Margaret Collins, Nancy Lamell and Richard Roberts will represent ABR as Regional Winners in the State Teacher of the Year Competition in the elementary, middle school and high school categories.
 
During the ceremony, ABR CEO, Henry Shepard, Jr. made a surprise announcement recognizing Dr. Perry Daniel, Principal of Prescott Middle School as the organization's 2010 "Principal of the Year".
 
The ceremony concluded with a dinner sponsored by several local restaurants and caterers: Bistro Byronz, Chef Don Bergeron, Big Al's Jazz it Up, Monita Skidmoore Catering and Margret's Classic Catering.
